  • The presence of plastic particles in your water, which may indicate degradation of the dip tube.
  • A water heater tank that is leaking from the top or side could be a sign of issues with the pressure and temperature valve, flex line connections, or pipes leading to and from the unit.
  • A reassuring sign to look out for is the sound of increased pressure in your water heater tank, which can be easily resolved by installing a pressure-reducing valve, minimizing the chances of bigger problems down the line.

Typically, determining whether to repair or replace a water heater depends on its age and general condition. In the United States, the average lifespan of a water heater is around 13 years.

Replacing a water heater is recommended if it is beyond its warranty period or if the necessary repairs are extensive. If there are leaks due to rust, the tank may have failed and a replacement is necessary since they cannot be repaired.

Energy Savers USA offers affordable financing options to help in the event of an unexpected purchase. Your service provider can give you a quote for a new water heater and may even be able to install it for you on the same day as your appointment.

To ensure your water heater is functioning optimally and has a longer lifespan, it is recommended to perform regular preventive maintenance. You can achieve this by following the maintenance tips outlined in Rheem's Use and Care Manual, which include:

  • Monthly: Flush out some water from your water heater's tank periodically to eliminate any buildup.
  • Annually: According to Rheem's Use and Care Manual, it is recommended to check the temperature and pressure relief valve, located near the top of the water heater, by lifting and releasing the lever handle to ensure that it operates properly. This should be done periodically and allow several gallons to flush through the discharge line to an open drain.

A maintenance check for your water heater may be available in your area through your service provider. You can ask them if this service is available and what it entails.

On average, tank water heaters can last up to 13.2 years depending on various factors such as usage, warranty level, water quality in the home, and the following factors:

  • Regular maintenance can improve the efficiency and longevity of your water heater.
  • Deposits may accumulate in the water heater tank and on the electrical heating elements, affecting temperature sensors and the performance and effectiveness of the water heater.
  • Regular maintenance can help prevent vent blockage, which can cause carbon monoxide exposure. In addition, checking for possible damage from hailstorms, new roof installations, and bird nests can help ensure proper exhaust ventilation and prevent water heater shutdown.

To quickly address a plumbing emergency, it's helpful to know where your home's main water shut off valve is located. Typically, you can find it in the basement or garage near the water heater.

To locate the valve for shutting off your water supply, you can begin by checking the basement or garage near the water heater. In case the valve is not found in these locations, you can check outside your house. Look for a metal cover near the street that may be labeled "water meter."

If you are unable to find your main water shut off valve and are experiencing a broken or leaking pipe that is causing water damage, our licensed and local service providers are available to help. Please call 888-577-9876 to receive prompt assistance.

Natural alternatives can be used to remove blockages such as soap scum and grease, and they don't harm the pipes like harsh chemicals.

Our licensed and experienced plumbers are equipped with advanced drain cleaning tools, including cable machines, jetters, and cameras, to effectively clear clogs and keep your pipes in good condition. They also offer preventive cleaning services and useful tips to help you maintain a clog-free drainage system.

Some positive indicators that may suggest a plumbing problem are:

  • Water that has unusual colors, unpleasant odors, or unusual amounts of debris.
  • A sudden increase in your water bill.
  • Water flow being slower than usual.
  • Water accumulation in your yard with no obvious source.
  • Your ceiling and walls may show signs of water.
  • Floors that are uneven or sloping unexpectedly.

You can easily schedule an appointment for plumbing repair services by calling 888-577-9876 or filling out the form above, if you notice any of these issues mentioned above.
